4. Organize the tutoring program to include which
days and times certain students attend, which skills are addressed and how those
skills will be addressed for all student groups (ELL, Sped, low SES). Determine the length of time students will
stay in tutoring and how they exit the program. In addition, create letters to be sent home
to parents to let them know about the program and its purpose.

Wish I could give you comments that would be useful to you, but as an elementary person your field is over my head. However, I can see that your action plan is very detailed. You clearly describe your action steps and evaluations and I am able to understand them even though I am not on a high school campus. Best wishes with your action research plan!
ReplyDeleteYour word verification setting is on. You may want to turn it off so it will be easier for people to post comments. The website listed on the Week 1 overview that explains how to do this is http://www.happyhourprojects.com/2012/02blog-tips-how-to-turn-off-word.html. You may find an easier way posted on facebook.
ReplyDeleteAnita - this looks great. My campus is doing something similar only they have created an actual semester class called "Creative Writing" (to give it a positive spin). Students were hand-scheduled based on the same criteria you are using. We have experienced our lowest scores in English Writing and I see the great need for your tutoring plan! All the best to you in 2013-14!
ReplyDeleteI'd split #2 into two separate rows. You have some great detail listed and you will have large amounts of data to sift through I believe. I think that some bullets would help you, some of your rows (4, 7) are FULL of information that is tough to get in sentence form. Do you have a research team to work with, or just the different individuals you've listed? It feels like your plan will produce some ripe fruit, and you have a lofty goal at 40%! Great job on your draft, I hope it goes well for you.
ReplyDeleteI really like your idea. I teach high school as well, and the passing rates for English EOC's have been terrible for my campus. I hope that you get some good data so that maybe we can use your findings to help students on my campus.
ReplyDeleteYour goal is very specific...I like that! I agree with Daniel about the bullets. Your will have plenty of data to back up your findings!!
ReplyDeleteLooks good. Have you determined what criteria will be used to select what students must attend the tutorials? We have random benchmarks throughout the year that if the students fail they have to attend certain mandatory tutorials. I like how you are focusing on specific skills and not just an overall English. I think that will be more beneficial than giving them both what they know and dont know and hoping it sticks. Good luck with everything.
ReplyDeleteEven though I am not familiar with the upper grades, I think that your action research will be very beneficial. I completely agree that older students will benefit from tutoring. Small group instruction is critical to student success. What will be your tutoring hours?
ReplyDeleteYour plan is very detailed and very specific. The information you collect should be very beneficial for the next grades teachers. While I am in the elementary setting I think all students can benefit from small group instruction and/or tutoring.
